RK Dutta transferred to Home Ministry to handle complex issues

In the wake of the opposition questioning the Centre on Gujarat cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana’s appointment as CBI interim chief and the ‘curious’ transfer of CBI’s senior officer RK Dutta to home ministry shortly before the post fell vacant, the Centre has said that Dutta was sent to home ministry to handle “complex issues” that needed his “experience and expertise.”

The transfer of RK Dutta as special secretary (Internal security) to Home Ministry recently had stunned bureaucratic circles because Dutta was seen as a natural successor to Anil Sinha, who retired as CBI director on December 3.
