Road Safety Drive Intensifies Across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The city-wide road safety drive continued in full swing on Wednesday as officials intensified efforts to ensure smooth travel across Greater Hyderabad. The ongoing operation aims to reduce traffic jams and improve daily road conditions through quick repairs and continuous monitoring.

Officials said the drive includes pothole filling, catch pit repairs, patchwork on damaged stretches, cover replacements and central median repairs. They added that all teams were working round the clock to complete pending tasks as early as possible. Meanwhile, Commissioner R. V. Karnan instructed field officers to speed up works in all zones. GHMC Maintenance Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar has been monitoring progress at the ground level and reviewing updates from field teams.

As of December 3, officials identified 23,058 potholes across the city. Out of these, 21,786 potholes have already been repaired. They also completed 1,032 catch pit repairs, 495 cover replacements and 13 central median repairs. Therefore, officials said the drive has achieved major progress within a short time, and teams will continue working on the remaining stretch.

Zone-wise numbers show the scale of the operation. In the L. B. Nagar zone, 3,888 potholes were filled, while 2,885 were repaired in the Charminar zone. The Khairatabad zone completed repairs on 3,785 potholes. The Serilingampalli zone fixed 2,731, and the Kukatpally zone repaired 3,258. Meanwhile, the Secunderabad zone completed the highest number of repairs with 5,239 potholes filled. This brought the total number of completed pothole works to 21,786.

Officials said they would continue to focus on locations with high traffic movement so that roads remain safe and usable for commuters. They added that the work would continue without pause until all identified potholes and repair tasks are completed. They also noted that the daily monitoring system helped speed up progress and improved coordination among all departments.

The road safety drive is expected to continue across all zones in the coming days. Officials said the goal is to ensure that all major routes remain clear, safe and free from major disruptions caused by potholes or road damage.
