Jayashankar Bhupalpally: A police team led by Crime and Task Force Inspector G Mohan seized 250 quintals of rice meant for distribution to the people under the Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) on Saturday at Mylaram village in Ganapuram mandal in the district. The seized rice is estimated to cost Rs six lakhs.
In a press note here on Sunday, the police said they received specific information about the illegal transportation of the PDS rice from Mylaram to Maharashtra, and raided the place.
“We took one Sherla Tiruputhi of Kothapally village of Ganapuram mandal into custody in connection with the case. During questioning, Tirupathi said he had collected the rice at Ramannagudem and Bagirthipet villages in Regonda mandal at lower price and was shifting it to Gondia in Maharashtra to be sold at a higher price,” the Inspector said, adding that they had also taken lorry driver B Shankar and helper Keshav into custody and handed over all three to the Ganapuram police. Sub-Inspectors Vijay Kumar, Satyanarayana Raju, ASI Gopal Reddy and Constable Praveen Prabhakar participated in the raid.
