Hyderabad: RTC unions have called for a Chalo Secretariat protest on February 24, demanding merger of RTC with the government and immediate clearance of pending dues. Union leaders announced the programme while outlining key financial and policy demands.
They urged the state government to address what they described as mounting fiscal pressures on the corporation. Moreover, they warned that employees would intensify their agitation if the issues remain unresolved. The RTC unions said the protest aims to secure a clear response from the authorities.
RTC Unions Demand Merger And Dues Clearance
The RTC unions demanded that the government merge RTC fully into the state administration. According to union leaders, this step would ensure stability and long term support. They also sought payment of funds without imposing a monthly cut of Rs 350 crores under the Mahalakshmi scheme.
Union representatives stated that the deduction of Rs 350 crores every month affects the financial stability of the corporation. Therefore, they insisted that the government reimburse the full amount without adjustments. They maintained that such deductions are adding to financial strain.
In addition, the unions demanded immediate release of pending dues amounting to Rs 2500 crores. They said these arrears have accumulated over time. Consequently, they argued that the delay in payment has strained operational capacity and employee welfare measures.
Unions Oppose Privatization And Seek Electric Buses
The RTC unions also opposed any move toward privatization of services. They urged the government to halt such proposals. Instead, they demanded that the state directly purchase electric buses and allocate them to RTC.
According to the unions, this step would modernize the fleet while retaining public ownership. They stressed that strengthening RTC through state support is essential for the future of public transport.
Meanwhile, officials have not yet issued a detailed statement on the demands raised by the unions. However, the Chalo Secretariat call is expected to draw attention to the ongoing debate over the future of RTC and public transport services in the state. The protest, therefore, marks a significant step in the unions’ broader campaign for financial support and policy clarity.
