Sambhal Jama Masjid Survey Report Delayed; Next Hearing Scheduled for Jan 8
The report on the survey of the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was not presented in the District Court on Friday. District Court Commissioner Ramesh Chandra Raghav demanded 10 days’ time, saying that the report was not complete.

The survey report is likely to be filed on December 8. The next hearing is now set for January 8.
Raghav said, “The report was postponed due to violence during the surveys on November 19 and November 24. Hence, today’s scheduled submission could not be made, leading to a prayer for further time.”
The advocate for the Shahi Jama Masjid Committee confirmed that he appeared before the court seeking the production of documents related to the case. The court directed the plaintiff to furnish the plant and other accompanying papers.

The case is still pending because of a claim of the existence of a Harihar temple on the premises of Jama Masjid. The controversy increased in the second phase of the survey, and there was a violent clash in which four youths were killed, and several people, including police and administrative personnel, were injured.
Security has been heightened in Sambhal in particular in the wake of Friday prayers.
The Supreme Court, on Friday, asked the trial court not to proceed further in the case and said “peace and harmony must be maintained” at all costs.

The Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid Committee has sought a stay on a district court-ordered survey of the mosque.
The top court told the mosque committee to approach an appropriate forum against the district court-ordered survey.
Meanwhile, a large force of police has been put on the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal as it is Friday.

The reports say that everything is normal in the area. People are walking on the roads and schools are open, but Internet services were suspended to prevent the spread of wrong information.
Tensions built up in Sambhal on November 24 with the second survey of Mughal-era Jama Masjid after locals pelted stones at the police and survey team.
The attack also damaged and set many vehicles on fire, while firing erupted in which four youths were killed and a number of people including policemen and officials were injured.
A judicial inquiry has been ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government.
