Santhi Kumari | Hyderabad, Jan 11 (Maxim News): Senior IAS office of 1989 batch and the Special Chief Secretary of Forest and Environment, A. Santhi Kumari has become the first women Chief Secretary of Telangana government, the orders have been released. She is likely to hold office till April 2025.

It may be recalled that the Telangana government Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar faced a huge setback in the High Court on Tuesday, the High Court issued a key verdict that he should go to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. This judgment put an end to the controversy over the division of civil servants.

Somesh Kumar had approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in 2014 challenging the allotment to AP instead of Telangana, where he had been given an option based on his seniority during the bifurcation of the combined Andhra Pradesh cadre.

In 2016, CAt ruled that Somesh Kumar should continue in Telangana. challenging this judgment, the Central department of Personnel Affairs and Training (DoPT) filed a writ petition in the High Court in 2017. A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Surepalli Nanda heard the petition at length.

Additional solicitor General T. Survakaran Reddy presented arguments on behalf of the petitioner, the Central government. The solicitor General said that the CAT acted against the IAS cadre rules and the assignment of Somesh Kumar to Telangana against the guidelines of the Pratyush Sinha Committee appointed by the Central government as per law was invalid.

Meanwhile, the Central government responded quickly after the High Court verdict. The Central Department of Training and Personnel Affairs issued an order on Tuesday directing Somesh Kumar to be relieved from duty immediately.
