SEC To Conduct Local Body Elections, Schedule Likely Within 3 Days

Hyderabad, Sept 27 (Maxim News) The government is preparing to hold local body elections with the reservation issue looming. In this context, the State Election Commission (SEC) has held a key meeting on local body elections.

A key meeting was held on Saturday (September 27) under the chairmanship of SEC Commissioner Rani Kumudini, CS Ramakrishna Rao, Law and Order Additional DG Mahesh Bhagwat, Panchayat Raj Secretary Sridhar and other senior officials participated in the meeting. Along with them, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania and Excise Commissioner Harikiran were present. The main topics discussed were the conduct of local body elections, election security and reservations. It is reported that there was a discussion on how many phases the elections should be held in total.

Meanwhile, it is known that the State government has taken a key decision to provide a 42 percent quota for BCs in local body elections (rural and urban). increasing the reservation to this extent, the BC Welfare Department released G.O.No. 9 on Friday. Based on the bills unanimously passed by all parties in the Assembly, including the ruling and opposition parties, it was announced that this G.O will be implemented immediately with the aim of increasing the political representation of BCs.

The state government has made it clear that its intention is to ensure that the oppressed classes grow along with everyone else and that this decision has been taken to fulfill the aspirations of the Telangana movement. With the line cleared for BC reservations, the State election Commission is ready to conduct local body elections. It is learnt that the schedule for local body elections will be released in a day or two. (Maxim News)
