Seminar at the college of Defence Management Concludes

Secunderabad, Jan 6 (Maxim News): The Annual Seminar on the theme “Leveraging Defence Expenditure as a Tool for Nation Building” at the College of Defence Management (CDM) which was a spectacle of extraordinary intellectual discourse & discussions, culminated here on Friday with the valedictory speech by HE Lieutenant General Nirbhay Sharma (Retd), Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram.

The second day’s discussions focused on understanding the economics of the Defence industry & the challenges in synchronizing military requirements with domestic manufacturing capability. Other aspects of policy such as Defence offsets, raising of Central Armed Police Forces & its effect on deployment of Armed Forces was discussed. The importance of harnessing private sector capacities for meeting defence requirements of the future also emerged.

On the final day eminent speakers such as Lieutenant General RR Nimbhorkar, Master-General of the Ordnance (MGO), Lieutenant General Vinod Bhatia (Retd), Director CENJOWS, Vice Admiral B Kannan (Retd), CEO (L&T), Vice Admiral HS Malhi (Retd), President & CEO Reliance Defence Engineering, Air Vice Marshal PK Srivastava (Retd), Vice President Flight Systems Business Unit, L&T, Dr S Kalyanaraman, IDSA and Laxman Behera, IDSA shared their experience & views on the topic.

In his valedictory address, the Governor of Mizoram complimented CDM for having chosen an extremely relevant & contemporary theme for the seminar & also for conducting the seminar in the most professional manner. He expressed his gratitude to the college which is a hallmark of professionalism, for enabling each participant to gain a clear understanding of a seemingly obvious but hither to fore unexplored facet of Defence expenditure. A facet that is driving the Nation’s growth both internally as well as in adding to its stature internationally & in the process contributing towards meeting most of the challenges our country faces today, in a major way.

The Governor stated that Defence expenditure is a compelling necessity & hence it is important that Defence spending should directly or indirectly contribute to Nation building. We need to identify & overcome roadblocks that have long stymied advancements in our Defence industry. (Maxim News)
