Senior IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao suspended once more
Amaravathi, June 29: The Andhra Pradesh government suspended senior IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao on Tuesday on charges of attempting to influence witnesses in a criminal case trial against him. In this regard, Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma issued an order.
On May 30, 2019, the YSRCP government transferred AB Venkateswara Rao, who was working as ACB Director General and was not given any posting. Later, on February 8, 2020, he was suspended on charges of engaging in illegal security equipment procurement. He petitioned the High Court and the Supreme Court, claiming that his suspension was illegal. Following Supreme Court orders, the State government reinstated him on May 18, this year. On June 14, he was appointed as Printing and Stationary Commissioner in response to repeated requests.
In his orders, the CS stated that Venkateswara Rao was facing corruption charges and that he attempted to influence witnesses in his case of irregularities in security equipment purchase. Venkateswara Rao has been ordered by the CS not to leave Vijayawada without his permission.
