Seven AAP MLAs Resign, Have Lost Trust in Kejriwal and the Party
Seven MLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned on Friday after being denied tickets for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. These resignations reflect growing discontent within the party, with the MLAs expressing a loss of trust in the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and the party. The resigning MLAs include Rohit Mehraulia (Trilokpuri), Madan Lal (Kasturba Nagar), Rajesh Rishi (Janakpuri), Bhavna Gaud (Palam), Bhupender Singh June (Bijwasan), and Pawan Kumar Sharma (Adarsh Nagar).
Rohit Mehraulia’s Resignation
Rohit Mehraulia, the MLA from Trilokpuri, resigned from all positions within AAP, including his membership. He criticized the party for not fulfilling its promises to uplift the Dalit/Valmiki community. Mehraulia accused AAP of exploiting his community for political gain while failing to address key issues like ending contract employment. He expressed frustration over the suppression of his concerns within the party.
Other Resignations Over Discontent
Madan Lal from Kasturba Nagar and Bhavna Gaud from Palam also resigned, saying they had lost faith in AAP and its leadership. Rajesh Rishi from Janakpuri echoed similar sentiments, accusing the party of abandoning its core values of transparency and corruption-free governance.
Pawan Kumar Sharma from Adarsh Nagar and Bhupender Singh June from Bijwasan also resigned, criticizing the party for moving away from the honest ideology on which it was founded.
AAP’s Dominance
AAP has dominated the last two Delhi Assembly elections, winning 67 and 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP, which has been out of power in Delhi for decades, aims to make a comeback. The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, has not won any seats in the last two elections.
Kejriwal’s Campaign Efforts
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s national convener, has focused his campaign on promoting the Delhi government’s welfare schemes. He highlighted how a family of 18 in Delhi saves ₹50,000 a month by using benefits like free electricity, education, and healthcare. Kejriwal also spoke about AAP’s new ‘Budget Patra’ campaign, which offers financial benefits to families in Delhi.
