Seven more passengers test positive for Omicron at RGIA

Hyderabad: Seven more international passengers who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad have tested positive for Omicron variant on Tuesday, taking the overall number of Omicron positive infections to 62 in Telangana.

Authorities also detected three Omicron positive infections from Hyderabad with no travel history or close contact with those who travelled recently. The three cases with no travel history included a lab technician, a pregnant woman and a software engineer. The detection of such Omicron positive individuals with no travel history hints at the possibility of the initial stages of community transmission of the Omicron variant in Hyderabad, doctors here fear.

Out of the 62 Omicron positive passengers, a total of 46 travellers were not vaccinated, 14 were fully vaccinated and two were partially vaccinated.

At Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), where all the Omicron positive patients are under isolation, blood samples of 20 patients were tested after seven days out of which 13 had tested negative while seven tested positive for Omicron.

“After six days, we will re-test the patients who tested positive for Omicron at TIMS. None of the Omicron positive patients at TIMS have any symptoms and their health condition is stable,” Health Minister, T Harish Rao on Tuesday said.
