Shabbir Ali says Congress government committed to delivering promises and shaping Telangana’s future
Adilabad, September 17: Advisor to Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Wednesday said that the Congress government was determined to ensure that every promise made to the people translated into visible change on the ground. Addressing the Praja Palana Dinothsavam celebrations at the Adilabad District Collectorate as Chief Guest, he said the administration had been working with seriousness and urgency to meet people’s expectations, combining welfare with long-term planning for Telangana’s future.
Shabbir Ali began his address by reminding the gathering that within 48 hours of assuming office, the Congress government initiated several of its key assurances. These included enhanced pensions for the vulnerable, free bus travel for women, Indiramma housing, crop-season support to farmers and strengthened healthcare and education. “These steps were not symbolic; they showed the government’s commitment to people’s welfare from day one,” he said.
The Advisor highlighted progress under the Mahalakshmi bus travel programme, stating that women in Telangana had made 2.53 crore free journeys since December 9, 2023, saving Rs 87.81 crore.
On civil supplies, he said 1.92 lakh families in the district were receiving free fortified fine rice. Since July 14, the administration had issued 28,640 new ration cards and added 34,113 beneficiaries to existing cards. Under the LPG support, 1.25 lakh families are eligible for Rs 500 monthly subsidy and 4.33 lakh LPG cylinders have been supplied so far at a cost of Rs 11.31 crore.
Gruha Jyothi: 1 Lakh Families Get Free Power in District
Detailing the Gruha Jyothi power support, Shabbir Ali said 1.02 lakh eligible consumers in the district were receiving 200 units of free power each month. Cumulatively, 16.78 lakh beneficiaries have availed the scheme, with Rs 55.98 crore spent so far; in the current financial year 1,290 agricultural power connections were sanctioned.
On housing, he said Indiramma Indlu remained central to the shelter push: a special quota of 3,500 houses per constituency, a combined 15,402 houses sanctioned for PVTG/ST and other groups, 7,573 works taken up and 5,096 already started, with Rs 53 crore deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

Women’s empowerment and farm support continued in tandem. 1.60 lakh SHGs received Rs 329.77 crore. Fertiliser availability was scaled, with 77,224 tonnes supplied to farmers. Under the national food security programme, 3,315 farmers received 23.24 lakh mini-kits of pulses and jowar on 100% subsidy.
Healthcare delivery was strengthened through Aarogyasri, with 25,051 patients treated and Rs 60.89 crore spent. Two PHCs—Talamadugu and Bela—were built with Rs 3.12 crore, while the RIMS Critical Care Block (Adilabad) was completed with Rs 23 crore. Under PM-Janman, 13 teams are providing services in 197 habitations.
Education also saw targeted improvements. This academic year, 694 government schools in the district host 57,481 students; through Badi Baata, 1,495 children were newly admitted.
₹468 Cr Boost for Roads, Water, and Civic Works
Urban and civic works included Rs 10.50 crore (TUFIDC) for BT/CC roads and drains, Rs 95.50 crore under AMRUT 2.0 for drinking-water systems, and Rs 225.46 crore for underground drainage. In rural connectivity, PMGSY sanctioned Rs 38.26 crore for 7 roads (5 completed) and Rs 25.37 crore for 7 bridges (6 completed); Rs 44.28 crore was approved for 15 roads under PM-Janman. Anganwadi and panchayat infrastructure got Rs 8.52 crore (71 AWCs) and Rs 20.02 crore (105 GP buildings) respectively.
Further, 226 SC students received Rs 9.55 lakh (post-matric scholarships) and 92 admissions were given under the Best Available School scheme. In minority welfare, the Overseas Scholarship offers Rs 20 lakh assistance; four residential schools/colleges, one CSC and two hostels were established. Under Arogyalakshmi, 10,483 pregnant and lactating women receive a nutritious meal daily. Kalyana Lakshmi/ Shaadi Mubarak has helped 41,589 families with Rs 388.75 crore, providing Rs 1,00,116 per couple (Rs 1,25,145 for divyang couples).
Tribal initiatives include the Girijana Poshan Mitra nutrition drive in 76 tribal girls’ schools and proposals for 17 tribal petrol bunks (with 11 already established). Under Indira Mahila Shakti, Rs 60.85 crore in loans were disbursed to women’s groups. MGNREGA created 34.97 lakh person-days, paying Rs 96.62 crore in wages and Rs 20.65 crore for materials. Vanamahotsavam raised 34 lakh saplings in 468 nurseries, with 23.48 lakh saplings planted so far.
Looking ahead, Shabbir Ali said the government’s Telangana Rising 2047 roadmap aims to make Telangana a $1-trillion economy by 2035 and $3-trillion by 2047, positioning the state confidently on the global stage while keeping social justice at the core. (Maxim News)
