Shabbir Ali seeks white paper on govt spend on Health

Hyderabad, Feb.14 (Maxim News): Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir here on Tuesday charged the State government with remaining criminally negligent and indifferent towards the government hospitals and public health in the State.

Speaking to the scribes at the CLP, Shabbir Ali demanded that the government release a white paper on the actual spending on the health sector. He said some 30 persons died in Khammam due to dengue fever, five patients lost eyesight after cataract operations in the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and five pregnant women died in the Niloufer hospital because of lack of proper government supervision in State-run hospitals, he said and questioned about government promise for setting up one general hospital and one super specialty hospital in each constituency.

Quoting reports of UNICEF and CESS that over 35 to 45% women were subjected to caesarean operations in Telangana private hospitals as against the healthy norm of 10 to 15%, Shabbir said investigations proved that through caesarean operations, the private hospitals looted Rs 1,500 crore. But the State government shut its eyes to the untoward happenings, he said, adding that PHCs in the State were in a very bad condition and almost half of them have no doctors and no drugs. He also faulted IT&MAUD Minister K Taralarama Rao for announcing Actress Samanta as ‘Handloom Ambassador of Telangana’. He also said the contracts in infrastructure projects were given to Seemandhra leaders ignoring Telangana contractors. (Maxim News)
