Short Term Course in Gender Sensitization concludes at MANUU
Hyderabad: A week-long, short-term course in gender sensitization concluded successfully on the 9th September at the UGC-HRDC at Maulana Azad National Urdu University. The programme is part of the initiative taken by the UGC to inculcate gender sensitivity among faculty members, to provide critical perspective on the socialization of men and women and to help faculty members to reflect critically on gender violence.
The programme covered myriad issues such as recognising sexual harassment in the workplace, means to combat sexual harassment, inclusive means of pedagogy in the classrooms, the role of women in electoral politics in India, women in popular Indian cinema, ways of seeing and the gendered means of violence. Resource persons from the Central University of Hyderabad, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and Maulana Azad National Urdu University were invited to conduct sessions all throughout the week. 21 participants, mostly assistant professors from the states of Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka participated in the programme.
In her valedictory address to the participants, the Director of the UGC-HRDC Professor Saneem Fatima said, ‘We have ensured that the participants get to listen to the latest developments in their field’, she added.
Assistant Professor of Economics at Government Degree College, Sangareddy district Mr. G. Narayana said, ‘This is my second programme at the UGC-HRDC. I am happy with the course because some of the issues raised have been an eye opener for me. I hope to include these values into my classroom teaching’.
