‘SIR’ In Telangana: Parties Are Shaking: 50 Lakh Votes Likely To Be Out?
Hyderabad, Dec 21 (Maxim News): Even after the elections in Telangana, the parties are in a state of panic. Because the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list will start soon in the state. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has already been completed in the states of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu . This has received strong opposition from the state governments there. Chief Ministers and top leaders have come out on the roads and started rallies and protests.
This SIR process ended amidst the protests. Officials between the central government and the state governments have come under pressure. Duplicate votes and votes of deceased people are being removed through this process. It is learned that the state government will transfer IPS officers in Telangana for this. In many states including Telangana, the Central Election Commission is likely to announce the schedule by the end of this month for the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. As restrictions on transfers of officials who will be part of the process will come into effect after the schedule is announced, there is a discussion in official circles that the government may transfer some department secretaries along with collectors and SPs of several districts. There are approximately 3.35 crore voters in Telangana state by September 2025. There are 1.68 crore female voters, 1.66 crore male voters, and 2,829 third gender voters. In Telangana too, there are chances of more than 50 lakh votes being lost out of the almost existing voters. Chief Ministers and top leaders have taken up the agitations.
1. A record 97.37 lakh votes have been deleted from the Tamil Nadu voters’ list. This is about 15.2% of the total voters.
Deaths: 26.94 lakh.
Permanent change of residence: 66.44 lakh.
Double votes for the same person: 3.98 lakh.
2. In West Bengal, about 58.21 lakh votes were also deleted. About 7.5% of the total voters were deleted.
Those who died: 24.17 lakh.
Those whose address was not found: 32.65 lakh.
Duplicate votes: 1.38 lakh.
On the occasion of the completion of two years of the Congress government in the state on the 7th of this month, the government has already taken an assessment of the performance of district collectors, SPs and secretaries of the respective government departments. It is learned that a decision has been made to appoint new officers in place of those who are not performing as per the government’s priorities. Discussions on transfers have started in the authority circles after CEC Gyanesh Kumar reached Hyderabad on Saturday to review the arrangements for the management of ‘Sir’ in the state. Gyanesh Kumar will meet with the Booth Level Officers (BLD) at Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad on Sunday and give directions regarding the management of ‘Sir’. On the other hand, with the conclusion of the Panchayat elections in the state, the state government is preparing for the next Zilla Parishad elections. There will be no possibility of transferring officers participating in election duties until this process is completed. It is learned that the government will issue orders to transfer IAS and IPS officers in the meantime.
The Centre will have to face two opposition parties in Telangana for the Sir process. Both the Congress and the BRS parties are ready to face the Centre’s vote-scraping process. Since Congress is not its home ground in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, the Congress could not stop the SIR as the BJP was in the opposition there. And in Telangana, the Congress party is the ruling party. Here, it remains to be seen what policy Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy will adopt on the Sir process. Moreover, government employees are also confused between the Central and State governments. They are in doubt whether to perform their duties as Election Commission officials or cooperate with the State government. There have also been allegations that BLOs have even committed suicide in the states where the SIR took place. Let’s see how the SIR process will be carried out in Telangana under such circumstances.
