Sonia Gandhi Elected As MP For The First Time In The Rajya Sabha

Jaipur/Hyderabad, Feb 20 (Maxim News): Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Along with Sonia, BJP leaders Chunilal Garasia and Madan Rathore were also unanimously elected to the Upper House from Rajasthan, Jaipur Assembly Secretary Mahavir Prasad Sharma said this.

Tuesday was the last day for withdrawal of Rajya Sabha nominations, these three leaders were unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha in the absence of anyone else, the official said.  Rajasthan has 10 Rajya Sabha seats, after the results, Congress has six members and BJP four.

Sonia Gandhi is the second leader from the Gandhi family to be elected to the Rajya Sabha.  former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a member of the Upper House from August 1964 to February 1967.  Sonia Gandhi is currently representing the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat.

On the other hand, the election of Rajya Sabha members in Telangana was also unanimous.  Returning officials revealed that the election was unanimous as only three candidates were in the fray from Telangana, Renuka Chaudhary, Anil Kumar Yadav, and BRS candidate Vaviraju Ravi were unanimously elected in three seats.  (Maxim News)
