A spate of illegal kidney transplant operations has created a stir in Hyderabad. On Tuesday, Rangareddy District Health Department officials and police raided the Alaknanda Hospital in Saroornagar after receiving information that kidney transplant surgeries were being conducted without permission. As part of the inspections, the officials suspected that there were two donors and two recipients for a kidney transplant and shifted all four to Gandhi Hospital.

Alaknanda Hospital was opened in Saroornagar Doctors Colony 6 months ago. The hospital is allowed to treat fever and other minor treatments only.  But after receiving information that kidney transplant surgeries were being performed unofficially, medical officers Geetha, Archana, LB Nagar ACP Krishnaiah, and Saroornagar CI Saidireddy inspected the hospital on Tuesday.  At that time, four people were seen undergoing treatment. When their bodies were examined, it was found that they had undergone major surgery on their lower back. It was initially confirmed that they had undergone kidney transplants. They were taken to Gandhi Hospital for further clarification.

DMHO Venkateswara Rao announced that the hospital was being sealed. A case was registered at Saroornagar police station. The government has recently formed a committee on this incident.  (Maxim News)
