Hyderabad, August 8: Telangana Information Technology and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Friday called on industry leaders to partner with the government in making Telangana a leading destination for plastics and polymer manufacturing. He said the plastics and polymers sector remains a key driver of India’s economic growth.
The minister inaugurated HIPLEX 2026, South and Central India’s largest plastics exhibition and the country’s third largest plastics expo, at the HITEX Exhibition Centre.
HIPLEX 2026 Showcases Growth of Plastics Industry
Organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), the four day exhibition features more than 550 exhibitors and is expected to attract over 55,000 business visitors from India and abroad.
Addressing industry representatives, entrepreneurs and exhibitors, Sridhar Babu said the exhibition reflects innovation, entrepreneurship and investment in the future. He noted that almost every manufacturing sector depends on plastics and polymers.
The minister said the industry provides direct employment to nearly 50 lakh people and indirect employment to more than one crore, while nearly two lakh families in Telangana depend on the sector for their livelihoods.
He praised the industry’s resilience in overcoming challenges such as volatile crude oil prices, supply chain disruptions, energy issues and labour shortages. He assured stakeholders that the Telangana government would continue supporting the sector through policy interventions whenever required.
Sridhar Babu said Telangana has emerged as a leader in IT, electronics, pharmaceuticals, Global Capability Centres, defence and aerospace. He added that the government now aims to replicate this success in the plastics and polymers industry by promoting innovation, sustainability and green manufacturing.
During the event, the minister also released the HIPLEX 2026 Show Directory.
According to Dr. Raju Desai, President of the Plastindia Foundation, India’s plastics industry is valued at Rs 4.5 lakh crore and is growing at 6 to 9 percent annually, with similar growth expected through 2031. He said the industry employs nearly 55 lakh people, while exports are expected to exceed Rs 1.4 lakh crore this year.
Dr. Desai also noted that India recycles nearly 60 percent of the plastics it consumes, placing the country among the global leaders in plastic recycling.
Speaking at the event, Arvind Mehta, Chairman of the Governing Council of the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA), said the industry should focus on exports, technology adoption, skill development and sustainability to strengthen India’s manufacturing capabilities.
Anil Reddy Vennam, Senior Vice President of AIPMA, urged the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to establish a dedicated Plastics Park with world class infrastructure and allocate 250 acres for a recycling cluster with a Common Effluent Treatment Plant. He also called for increased investments in infrastructure, water management, packaging and medical plastics.
HIPLEX 2026 is spread across seven exhibition halls covering more than 26,000 square metres. The exhibition includes live machinery demonstrations, technical conferences, recycling technology showcases and business networking sessions. It will remain open to visitors until August 10.
