State Govt To Hold GP, MPTC, ZPTC And Municipality Polls: Notification Likely In June?
Hyderabad, May 30 (Maxim News): The state government is planning to hold the Gram Panchayat, MPTC, ZPTC and Municipality elections in July itself. It has decided to issue a notification in this regard in the last week of June. It has been decided to complete the elections by the second week of August.
It seems that orders have already been issued to the relevant officials in this regard. The work of compiling the voters list, dividing the wards and identifying the polling stations has already come to a conclusion. There is a possibility that the top officials will conduct a review on all these once again.
The government intends to hold the Gram Panchayat elections first in the Gram Panchayat, MPTC, ZPTC and Municipality local bodies. There are a total of 12,633 Panchayats in the state. Official sources say that elections will be held for all of them. There are more than 1,13,500 wards in all these Panchayats
However, some Gram Panchayats are likely to merge into municipalities. While the wards in those Panchayats are gone, elections are likely to be held for the rest. On the other hand, elections will also be held for 5,817 MPTC, 567 MPP and 567 ZPTC seats. Once the ZPTC elections are over, ZP chairman will be elected in the remaining 31 districts except Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri. The government intends to complete this process by August.
It is known that the government has considered providing 42 per cent reservation to BCs in local bodies. It is known that the bills related to this have already been passed in the assembly and sent to the center. However, the center has kept the decision on this pending. The center believes that if BC reservation is approved in Telangana, there will be pressure from other states, However, if the center does not take a decision by the time of the local election notification, the elections will have to be held with the old reservations
According to that, reservations will have to be implemented without exceeding 50 percent in total. According to the old reservation, reservations were allocated to SCs and STs in the local bodies according to the population ratio and the remaining reservations were to be given to BCs. Based on this calculation 21 to 22 percent reservation was implemented for BCs in the Gram Panchayat, MPTC and ZPTC elections in the past, and 31 percent reservation was implemented in municipalities. The government is planning to adopt the same system now as well.
However, if there is a situation where new reservations cannot be increased in local bodies, the Congress has already promised to allocate 42 percent of seats to BCs as a party. In this context, there is a possibility of pressure from BC leaders to implement it. Therefore, the government is working on this. As announced earlier, there is a possibility of implementing 42 percent reservation for BCs in local elections as a party. (Maxim News)
