Soon after, a scuffle broke out between the protesters and the police. Authorities then detained several students and shifted them to different police stations across the city.

SFI state general secretary T Nagaraju said welfare residential schools and colleges operating in rented buildings need permanent campuses. He also opposed the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. He demanded that the government withdraw the policy and pass a resolution to stop its rollout in the state.

In addition, the protesters raised concerns about vacancies in state universities. They called for immediate recruitment of professors, assistant professors, and non-teaching staff. They also demanded the release of Rs.218 crore in pending dues under the best available scheme and clearance of hostel bills.
