Hyderabad: The Sultanabad Municipal Election in Peddapalli district was postponed due to lack of quorum after no member from the Congress camp attended the chairman election. Officials deferred the process when reconciliation failed among contesting leaders.
The development came despite Congress winning the majority of seats in the municipality. Out of 15 councilor seats, Congress secured 11. Meanwhile, BRS won one seat and AIF B won one seat.
Congress wins 11 seats but skips chairman election
The post of Municipal Chairman was allotted to a general category candidate. Birudu Radhakrishna, son of former Peddapalli MLA late Birudu Rajamallu, entered the race. Antati Annayya Goud, wife of District Library Organization Chairman Antaati Pushpalatha, also contested. In addition, Gajula Rajamallu, husband of former Municipal Chairman Gajula Lakshmi, joined the contest.
However, reconciliation could not be achieved between them. Therefore, no one from the Congress camp attended the chairman election. As a result, officials could not proceed due to lack of quorum.
Reconciliation failure stalls Sultanabad chairman poll
The absence of Congress members directly impacted the Sultanabad Municipal Election. Although the party held a clear majority with 11 seats, internal differences prevented participation in the chairman election.
Meanwhile, BRS and AIF B had one seat each in the municipality. However, the chairman election required quorum. Since Congress members did not attend, authorities postponed the election.
The postponement highlights internal disagreements within the Congress camp. Consequently, the chairman election in Sultanabad Municipality will take place at a later date once quorum requirements are met.
