Supreme Court Refuses To Hear Telangana Govt SLP On BC Reservation Issue
Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 16 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Telangana government on the issue of BC reservations in local body elections. The apex court made it clear that the matter cannot be entertained as it is pending in the High Court. It has directed the High Court to proceed with the further inquiry irrespective of its orders and to inquire into the merits. It has said that if desired, local elections can be held on the basis of the old reservations.
It is known that the Telangana government has filed an SLP in the Supreme Court challenging the stay imposed by the High Court on GO 9, which provided 42 percent reservation for BCs in the local body elections. The state government filed a petition on the 13th, challenging the interim orders issued by the High Court on the 9th of this month. In view of the emergency situation, the Supreme Court mentioned before the Registrar on Tuesday that the matter should be heard on the 16th and 17th. As requested by the state government, the Registry has included the case in today’s list of hearings. However, the Supreme Court refused to hear it. (Maxim News)
