Supreme Court Shock To Center In Hindenburg Adani Case
Delhi/Hyderabad: The Supreme Court gave a shock to the Center in the Hindenburg Adani case. The bench rejected the expert committee suggested by the Centre in a sealed cover. The Court said it wanted complete transparency in the matter while striking down the provision of names in a sealed cover.
Chief justice D.Y Chandrachud opined that if the Court accepts the sealed cover, it will be like saying OK to the committee appointed by the government. He said that they do not want that to happen.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that judges will make the final decision on who will be the members of the committee. On the other hand, the Chief Justice bench announced that a committee will be formed under the leadership of a retired judge and not a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
After the fall of Adani stock with the Hindenburg report, the Supreme Court has suggested that a strong mechanism is needed to protect the wealth of investors. Last week, the court told the center to suggest the names of the members of the expert committee headed by the judge in this regard. In this order, the Center is ready to form a panel to strengthen SEBI. However, the bench, which expressed its displeasure over the submission of the committee’s proposals in a sealed cover, announced that it would set up a panel on its own. (Maxim News)
