Supreme Court Stays The Verdict Of Acquittal Of 12 People Of Mumbai Train Blast Case 

Delhi/Hyderabad, July 24 (Maxim News):  It is known that the Bombay High Court recently acquitted 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blast.  Another sensational update has come on this.  The Supreme Court has recently stayed the High Court’s verdict.  But it has clarified that the accused who were released from jail following the High Court’s orders will not be re-arrested

Going into details, on July 11, 2006, seven bomb blasts took place in several suburban trains on the Western Railway line in Mumbai.  These occurred within a span of just 11 minutes.  189 people lost their lives in this accident. Another 800 were injured.  However,  the police alleged that these attacks were linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Students Islamic Movement of India.  After an investigation into the incident, a special court convicted 12 accused in October 2015.

Five of them were sentenced to death on charges of planting bombs.  The other seven were sentenced to life imprisonment.  The convicts who were sentenced to death are Kamal Ansari, Faizal Shaikh, Estesham Siddiqui, Naved Hussain and Asif Bashir Khan.  Those who were sentenced to life imprisonment are Sheikh Alam Shaikh (41), Mohammad Sajid Ansari (34), Tanveer Ahmed Ansari (37), Sohil Mehmood Shaikh (43), Zameer Ahmed Shaikh (36), Mohammad Majid Shafi (32) and Majzamil Shaikh (27). One of them, Kamal Ansari, died of Corona in Nagpur Jail in 2021.

However, the convicts approached the Bombay High Court against the verdict given by the special court.  On the other hand, the Maharashtra government also filed a petition challenging them.  The case has been pending in the High Court since 2015.  After that, in July 2024, the High Court constituted a special bench for day-to-day hearing.  Recently, it gave a sensational verdict declaring the 12 accused innocent.  Now, the Supreme Court has recently stayed the High Court verdict.  (Maxim News)
