Talasani Vows To Continue Agitation For Secunderabad Municipal Corporation
Hyderabad, Jan 18 (Maxim News): Former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav upped the ante against the Congress government, declaring that the agitation for the formation of a separate Secunderabad Municipal Corporation, would continue until the demand was met. Police cases and arrests would not deter the movement, he said.
Speaking to media persons at his West Marredpally office here on Sunday, Srinivas Yadav said the police, who initially granted permission for a peaceful rally, abruptly cancelled it late at night. The police disrupted the protest with arrests and intimidation, but the crackdown had only strengthened their resolve.
“Secunderabad has a 220-year rich history and heritage, which is a matter of our identity and self-respect. We will fight till the government relents on its plans to erase the name by merging it with Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation,” he asserted, releasing videos of police high-handedness during the rally.
The former Minister accused the Revanth Reddy government of Tughlaq-style functioning and taking confusing decisions, citing the creation of Malkajgiri Corporation while denying Secunderabad its municipal corporation. He criticised the Congress for doing nothing in the last two years and instead, passing time without focusing on the State’s development.
Announcing that a larger rally with thousands of people would be organised in the first week of February after securing necessary permissions from the court, he appealed to all like-minded parties and organisations to join the agitation, reiterating that the government’s intimidation tactics would not scare them.
