The accident, which involved a bus dragging a bike for 300 meters before catching fire, revealed multiple technical defects in the vehicle. This prompted authorities to launch a comprehensive crackdown on bus safety and compliance.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, officials from the traffic police and transport department conducted massive inspections in various city zones, including Kukatpally, Hayathnagar, and L.B. Nagar.

They focused on multiple areas—checking drivers for drunk driving, verifying insurance, fitness certificates, permits, and overall safety standards of buses. Several cases were registered against vehicles operating without permits, and some buses were seized to enforce stricter compliance.

Authorities also targeted other vehicles such as autos and cabs, penalizing drivers found without valid licenses or driving undocumented vehicles. Challans were issued extensively, and officials have mandated that vehicles will only be permitted to operate after clearing these fines. This effort aims to reduce traffic violations and improve road safety across the city.

Going forward, the Transport Department plans to expand these inspections across Greater Hyderabad with a special emphasis on private travel buses. Six dedicated teams will monitor safety standards, vehicle fitness, and drivers’ experience. Officials have warned bus owners that failure to comply with safety rules will result in strict penalties.

The department’s renewed vigilance underlines its commitment to preventing incidents similar to the Kurnool tragedy. By prioritizing passenger safety and enforcing regulations rigorously, Telangana hopes to ensure safer travel for all residents. The full-scale inspections and enforcement measures remain ongoing.
