Telangana Cabinet Expansion Further Delayed!

Hyderabad, Jan 3 (Maxim News): The anticipated cabinet expansion in the state seems to be facing further delays, with no concrete timeline in sight. Speculation surrounding the expansion has been ongoing for months, with ministers previously indicating that the expansion could take place by the end of December. Despite these expectations, recent developments suggest that it may be postponed even further.

Currently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is abroad, and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled for a foreign trip in the third week of this month. The Chief Minister’s visit includes participation in the World Economic Forum Summit in Davos from January 24 to 27, with a potential team visit to Australia and Singapore either before or after the summit. Following this, the budget sessions are set to begin in February. Given these circumstances, senior Congress leaders have expressed that the chances of a cabinet expansion in January are slim.

On the other hand, competition for ministerial posts is intensifying. It is expected that six new individuals will be given opportunities, in addition to the current ministers. However, rumors suggest that the cabinet expansion may only accommodate four or five new faces. The selection process is expected to consider social equations and other priorities.

During the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that Maktal MLA Srihari would be included in the cabinet. If Srihari is inducted, it would indicate a representation from the Mudiraj community. Several other MLAs are also vying for cabinet positions, including Bodhan MLA Sudarshan Reddy, Munugode MLA Rajagopal Reddy, Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy, Parigi MLA Rammohan Reddy, Mancherial MLA Premsagar Rao, and Chennur MLA Vivek.

Rajagopal Reddy, who rejoined Congress before the elections, has claimed that the high command had assured him a cabinet position. However, his brother Venkat Reddy is already part of the cabinet, leading to some uncertainty about his inclusion. There are also strong calls within the party for Sudarshan Reddy, a senior leader who has been loyal to Congress, to be given a cabinet post, as there is no representation from the combined Nizamabad district.

In addition, there is a possibility that one of the leaders from the minority community, such as Azharuddin or Shabbir Ali, may be included in the cabinet. This would fulfill the party’s commitment to providing opportunities for minority representation.

Despite the competition and mounting expectations, the key question remains: when will the cabinet expansion take place? If it doesn’t occur this month, the expansion may only happen after the budget sessions and the local body elections have concluded. (Maxim News)
