Telangana Cabinet Ministers ‘WhatsApp Groups Hacked?
- Cyber crime scare as SBI Aadhaar update APK targets ministers and journalists
- Telangana Cyber Crime Police secures hacked groups and issues warnings
A major alert was sounded in Telangana after reports claimed that several WhatsApp groups linked to cabinet ministers and Hyderabad journalists were hacked. The issue came to light when cyber criminals shared an APK file in the name of an SBI Aadhaar update and gained access to phones once users opened it. The incident created serious concern in media circles and official networks.
Authorities noted that the hackers used the APK file to take control of targeted phones. They also said that messages showed many media groups, ministerial groups, the CMO group and the Deputy CM group had come under the control of hackers. As these messages spread, users reported that the phones of ministers’ PROs and journalists were also affected by the attack.
Meanwhile, Telangana Cyber Crime Police responded to the viral claims on social media and moved quickly to secure the hacked WhatsApp groups. Officials said that immediate steps were taken to restrict further access and prevent misuse. They also reviewed the circulation pattern of the malicious APK file to understand how the attackers targeted users.
Later, cybercrime experts issued fresh warnings and advised journalists and officials to stay alert. They said people must not open APK files under any circumstances and must avoid clicking on suspicious links. They stressed that such files can silently take control of devices and put sensitive information at risk. The warnings are being shared widely to prevent more users from falling victim.
The incident has again placed a spotlight on rising cyber threats in Telangana. It also pushed officials and media professionals to review their digital security practices. With attackers using simple but harmful tricks, experts reminded users that vigilance remains the strongest defence.
