End Use Of Payment Gateways Such as PhonePe, Paytm, AmazonPay, and GooglePay to pay electricity bills
According to officials from TGSPDCL, the decision to discontinue the use of payment gateways like PhonePe, Paytm, AmazonPay, GooglePay, and various banks has been mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This directive aims to centralize and standardize payment processes for electricity bills. Officials further emphasized that a significant number of urban consumers have relied on these third-party gateways for years to settle their monthly energy bills.
No app for iPhone users
The officials clarified that the directives to cease third-party payment gateways were issued uniformly to power utilities nationwide. Following a social media announcement by TGSPDCL, numerous consumers criticized the decision as harsh. Concerns were raised about the lack of an app for iPhone users, highlighting potential accessibility issues. Suggestions were made to integrate bill payments into the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to streamline the process, while others viewed the move as regressive in the context of India’s digital advancement initiatives.
