Mancherial: A news channel reporter and his wife committed suicide by jumping into a lake reportedly due to depression over health issues on the outskirts of Bellampalli town on Thursday midnight. The incident came to light on Friday morning.
According to Bellampalli Inspector D Raju, Mosam Mallesh (36), a scribe working with 10 TV news channel from Subhash Nagar and his wife Narmada (32), a government school teacher, resorted to the extreme step as they were depressed following multiple chronic diseases including fistula, high blood pressure, skin allergies, spondylitis, etc.
Before ending their lives, Mallesh left a lengthy suicide message on WhatsApp groups of his friends who alerted police at around 10 am. “I feel sad about leaving family members and friends. But I am facing severe health problems which are mounting every day. I am experiencing hell and I cannot express the pain. I can’t find a way out except killing myself,” he said in the message.
According to the message, Narmada, who was diagnosed with thyroid, fibroid, stomach-ache, irregular menstruation and infertility, was also experiencing ordeal every day. “She expressed her inability to live alone as she has loved me for 12 years. So, we both decided to commit suicide,” the message read. The scribe, who was also a financier, appealed to his friends to repay debts by collecting money that he lent to certain persons.
Based on Mallesh’s mobile phone signals, police searched the tank and spotted a handbag, slippers and a two-wheeler belonging to the couple. They pressed personnel of the rescue team from Singareni Collieries Company Limited to fish out the bodies. While the body of Mallesh was fished out at around 11 am, the body of Narmada was found in the evening.
Meanwhile, Mallesh’s colleagues and journalist fraternity expressed shock over the incident. They said he was a dedicated reporter and entered the field over a decade ago. A pall of gloom descended over Subhash Nagar.
