Telangana Elections: Comprehensive Plan for Fair and Smooth Voting

Hyderabad, November 23: With the TSLA elections scheduled for November 30th fast approaching, District Election Officer (DEO) Mr. Ronald Rose and City Police Commissioner (CP) Mr. Sandeep Shandilya convened a briefing today to outline the extensive measures being implemented to ensure a smooth and fair polling day.

Technology-Driven Surveillance

DEO Mr. Ronald Rose emphasized the integration of advanced technology for surveillance, highlighting the implementation of webcasting to enable real-time monitoring of polling stations. Additionally, micro observers will be strategically positioned at critical polling locations, and vehicles transporting Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be equipped with GPS tracking systems.

Multi-layered Security Arrangements

CP Mr. Sandeep Shandilya detailed the comprehensive security arrangements for the polling day. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed at critical polling stations, supported by 391 route mobiles, each comprising three armed personnel and one PC. Further, 129 patrolling vehicles, 220 Blue Colts, and 122 other vehicles will be deployed to respond promptly to Dial 100 calls and address any incidents that may arise.

A network of 45 Flying Squad teams and 45 Static Surveillance teams, along with static pickets, is already operational. A special striking force, comprising 28 ACPs and seven DCP rank officers, will be deployed, and nine task force teams, nine special forces teams, along with 71 inspectors and 125 Sub-Inspectors, will act as a Quick Response Team (QRT).

Safeguarding the Voting Process

Section 144 is in effect, instructing people not to gather and to return home after voting. Any action or inaction by the police to react to a specific situation will entail severe consequences. All Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to remain vigilant and monitor the situation. A minimum of one Woman Police Constable (WPC) will be deployed at each polling station. This multi-layered security apparatus aims to create a safe and secure environment for voters to exercise their democratic rights without hindrance.

EC Observers’ Recommendations

EC observers recommended the deployment of a local individual well-acquainted with the area to ensure a thorough understanding of the local context. Their suggestions also included maintaining hygiene standards at polling stations, among other measures.
