Telangana: Green signal to fill up vacancies in varsities
Hyderabad, June 22: Telangana government gave green signal to fill up professor, associate professors and other vacancies in all the universities across the State. It was decided to set up a special recruitment board to take up appointments.
The officials have briefed Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao about the vacancies in universities at a meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The CM ordered the officials to fill the vacancies. But the officials were told to implement joint appointment policy for the 11 varsities instead of taking up individual appointments.
The CM decided to set up single recruitment board taking the allegations raised during individual appointments earlier into consideration. The officials were suggested to send experts’ names for the committee.
There are a total of 2,828 posts in 11 universities across the State. Out of this, 1,869 posts are vacant. In 2017, the government ordered to fill up 1,061 posts out of the 1,528 vacancies, but they are not filled up till date. It was alleged that the appointments were delayed on the pretext of reservations, legal issues and other points.
The number of vacancies rose to 1,869 by January 2021, after some staff retired. These vacancies include 238 professor posts, 781 associate professor and 850 assistant professor posts. Presently, temporary and contract teaching staff are working, which led to criticism that educational standards are falling.
