Telangana High Court Directs GHMC to Act on Chiranjeevi’s Construction Regularisation Plea
Hyderabad, July 16 (Maxim News): In a significant development, the Telangana High Court has directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take appropriate action on an application submitted by Megastar Chiranjeevi seeking regularisation of certain constructions at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy issued the directive while disposing of a writ petition filed by the veteran actor, who had challenged GHMC’s inaction on his application dated June 5, 2025, filed under Section 455-AA of the GHMC Act. The petition sought the regularisation of modifications, including a retaining wall constructed at his property.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, advocate Apoorva Reddy told the court that the original G+2 residential structure was sanctioned by GHMC in 2002. Later, during renovation works, Chiranjeevi had obtained permissions, including for the construction of the retaining wall in 2017.
Despite complying with all requirements and submitting a fresh application for regularisation in June 2025, the GHMC failed to initiate any further action, prompting the actor to seek legal intervention.
The GHMC’s counsel stated that the civic body would act in accordance with the law and duly consider the application.
Taking these submissions into account, the court directed the GHMC Commissioner to review the application and issue a reasoned order within four weeks of receiving the court’s directive. The order must be passed after giving the petitioner a fair opportunity to be heard.
This ruling comes as a reminder of the importance of timely administrative responses and affirms the right of citizens—including public figures—to seek redress for procedural delays in governance.
