Telangana IMA Docs Call 24-Hour Medical Bandh Tomorrow
Hyderabad, June 15 (Maxim News): Telangana wing of Indian Medical Association on Saturday called a 24-hour shutdown of regular medical services on June 17 from 6 am to June 18, 6 am along with THANA, government docters and Junior/Resident Doctors. However, emergency and casualty services will be available to the general public during the medical bandh.
In a pressnote here today, IMA Telangana State president Dr B. Pratap Reddy said violence against doctors has been increasing on the charge negligence towards patients. Instead of pursuing lawful methods in case of any suspected negligence, violence has become a trend by a few segments of the population and blaming the innocent doctors. Consequently, responsible doctors are in a vulnerable position. He stressed the need of the Central government to bring a Central Act for protection of doctors and award of severe punishment to those who attack doctors and emergency department staff.
Dr B. Pratap Reddy also demanded that West Bengal Chief Minister tender unconditional apologies to junior doctors. He also demanded that the governments withdraw three bills — Consumer Protection Act, Clinical Establishment Act and Doctor Fraternity Rights — which are decreasing the relationship between doctors and patients. He appealed to common public that the medical shutdown for 24 hours was not to hurt the public access to medical services but it is outcry of the suffering of the medical community. (Maxim News)
