Telangana: Medical Colleges to Reopen from Tomorrow

Hyderabad: Telangana government has permitted Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) to allow medical colleges in State to reopen from tomorrow in a phased wise manner so that they can conduct practical and clinical postings of MBBS students.

Since the imposition of the lockdown, health sciences colleges in Telangana have been imparting medical education to MBBS student through online classes.

According to officials, at present, all the theory classes have been completed as per the schedule and there is an urgent need for medical colleges to reopen so that practicals, clinical postings and year-end examinations for MBBS students can be conducted.

Given these circumstances, the KNRUHS has directed medical colleges to reopen so that they can conduct the practical classes. However, they must conduct the academic activities in batches and in a phased manner to prevent overcrowding in colleges and hostels.

Only 50 per cent of students should be allotted practical classes and clinical postings for 15 days in a month by rotation and the principals have to take effective measures to complete vaccination of all the students, faculty and staff of the medical college, the Registrar, KNRUHS in a notification said.

The medical colleges must ensure that all appropriate measures have been taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and guidelines must be followed strictly while conducting classes and clinical postings.

The KNRUHS has directed the medical colleges to adopt all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on preventive measures to contain spread of Covid-19 by the MOHFW and NMC.
