Telangana municipal elections: DGP reviews security readiness
Hyderabad, Feb. 10 (Maxim News) : Telangana Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday said all arrangements for the municipal elections in the state have been completed, with the election code in force across Telangana except Hyderabad.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad, the DGP said police seized 1,183 licensed weapons as a precautionary measure. In addition, 4,318 persons were bound over, while 398 non bailable warrants were executed.
Municipal election security arrangements across Telangana
Shivadhar Reddy said 20 check posts were set up along the borders with four neighbouring states. Across Telangana, police established 55 check posts, deployed 181 flying squads, and positioned 167 static surveillance teams.
So far, officials seized assets worth Rs 3.09 crore. This included Rs 1.29 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 1.21 crore, drugs valued at Rs 15.7 lakh, and gold and other valuables worth over Rs 28.69 lakh.
The DGP said the state has 8,203 polling stations. For election security, police deployed 3,000 additional personnel drawn from various departments. He added that 100 percent webcasting arrangements were made at all polling stations.
Reddy said Telangana has 1,302 hypersensitive, 1,926 sensitive, and 4,975 normal polling stations. Webcasting was also arranged outside hypersensitive booths.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy announced that the silent period will begin at 5 pm on February 9, 2026. He urged voters to exercise their franchise freely, assuring that all steps were taken to ensure peaceful polling. (Maxim news)
