Telangana Muslim | Hyderabad, Aug 12 (Maxim News): In a show of unity against the new Waqf Amendment Bill-2024, the Association comprising Sajjada Nasheen, Muttawalli and Kidmadguzran -e-Waqf of Telangana met in large number to voice their opposition to the New Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 tabled by the BJP led NDA government in Parliament, which presently is in process of discussion by the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The gathering of Telangana Muslim Religious Leaders saw the participation of a wide spectrum of religious leaders from the Sunni, Tablighi, Mehdvi, and Shia communities.

Syed Ghulam Afzal Biabani Khusro Pasha, Abul Fateh Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri, Nadeem Ullah Hussaini, Moulana Kamil Shuttari, Mahmood Pasha Quadri Zareen Kullah, Farooq Pasha Quadri Zareen Kullah, Zaheeruddin Ali Sufi, Waliullah Hussain Ifteqari, Shujauddin Ifteqari, Muneeruddin Muqtar, Senior Advocate High Court Abdul Muqeeth Qureshi, Member, Indian Journalists Union M. A. Majid and others were present reflecting a rare collective stance against the proposed legislation.

Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 sparked concern among Muslim religious leaders, stating that the new Bill denies their identity giving the example when the power was given to the Collector who is from the Revenue department to decide whether it is Waqf property or not. Then, where is the need for having the Waqf Board and its members, they questioned. If the new Bill is passed, it would strip the remaining Waqf institutions of their land, posing a threat to the preservation and management of Waqf properties.

Proposals Discussed During The Meeting

Several proposals were discussed during the meeting to build public opinion against the bill. These include organizing rallies, holding public meetings, and engaging with secular political leaders to rally support. There is also a plan to formally represent the parliamentary committee currently reviewing the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

One of the more contentious proposals discussed was the formation of a Dargah Board, a move supported by a particular group. The leaders present expressed their willingness to back the formation of such a board if it materializes. The meeting concluded with a strong condemnation of the bill.

Following the meeting, a press conference was addressed by Syed Shah Ali Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini Saberi, who reiterated the association’s commitment to opposing the bill and protecting Waqf properties.

The event marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate over the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, with religious leaders pledging to continue their efforts to safeguard the rights and properties of Waqf institutions across Telangana.

He said that the Bill which is in its present form is much more suitable to them and that there is no need for having a new Waqf Amendment Bill. He said also as part of their struggle program, they will also meet the NDA partners who are supporting the BJP government at the Center to build pressure on the Central government to withdraw the new Amendment Bill.
