Telangana Schools Likely To Observe Holiday on Shab-e-Barat

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a holiday for Shab-e-Barat, which falls on February 14 this year.

Initially, the state’s holiday list included Shab-e-Meraj (February 14) as an optional holiday, but now, Shab-e-Barat will be observed instead.

What is Shab-e-Barat?

Shab-e-Barat, also known as the “Night of Forgiveness,” is an important occasion in Islam. People spend the night praying, visiting graveyards, and seeking forgiveness. Some also fast the next day.

Schools to Remain Closed

Although Shab-e-Barat is an optional holiday, many schools in Telangana are expected to remain closed on this day.

Here are the holidays for February 2025 in Telangana:

✅ Optional Holidays:

  • Sri Panchami – February 3
  • Shab-e-Barat – February 14

✅ General Holiday:

  • Mahashivaratri – February 26

Minority schools in the state may also remain closed the day after Shab-e-Barat.
