Telangana To Approach Supreme Court Over BC Reservation Stay
Hyderabad, Oct 11: The Telangana government has decided to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court’s recent stay on Government Order (GO) 9 related to Backward Class (BC) reservations.
Officials confirmed that the petition will be filed on Monday, following a detailed examination of the High Court’s order. The state has engaged senior advocates, including Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Siddhartha Dave, to represent its case before the apex court.
The High Court had stayed GO 9 along with GOs 41 and 42, stating that the orders failed to meet the “triple test” mandated for extending reservations.
The court also referred to previous Supreme Court judgments which held that reservation quotas exceeding 50 percent are unconstitutional.
Petitioners have been granted two weeks to file their counters, while the government has four weeks to submit its reply. The next hearing in the case is listed for December 3.
The High Court’s detailed order outlining its reasons for staying the government’s orders has been officially released.
