Hyderabad, May 15 (Maxim News): The Telangana government will conduct State-wide mock exercises on May 18 to assess disaster preparedness and strengthen emergency response systems for floods, forest fires and industrial accidents across several districts.
Secretary Smt D. Hari Chandana reviewed the preparedness arrangements with officials at the Integrated Command and Control Centre on Friday. She instructed all departments and district administrations to ensure effective coordination and timely response during the exercises.
Officials said the Telangana mock drills aim to evaluate the readiness of various departments and emergency agencies in handling floods, forest fires and industrial accidents. The exercise will also assess the functioning of Emergency Operation Centres (EOCs), Incident Response Teams (IRTs), communication systems and inter departmental coordination during emergency situations.
The State government is conducting the exercise to improve disaster management systems, strengthen coordination among agencies and enhance public safety ahead of the monsoon season.
Telangana Mock Drills to Strengthen Emergency Coordination
Director General of Fire Services Vikram Singh Mann said mock drills play an important role in identifying gaps and resolving operational issues related to floods, industrial accidents and fire emergencies. He added that Telangana has been improving disaster preparedness under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to minimise loss of life and property during disasters.
Major General Sudhir Behl (Retd.), Lead Consultant, NDMA, delivered a detailed presentation on the roles and responsibilities of departments during the mock exercises. He said the drills help identify gaps in communication systems, rescue operations, coordination and resource mobilisation.
He also reviewed preparatory activities undertaken by different departments. These included community participation measures, public awareness efforts, resource mapping and preparedness planning for emergency response.
According to officials, flood mock drills will be conducted in Hyderabad, Kamareddy, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Khammam, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.
Forest fire mock drills are proposed in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nagarkurnool, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. Meanwhile, industrial accident mock exercises will take place in Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Sangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts.
Senior officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Police, Forest Department, Fire Services, Central Water Commission (CWC), Health Department, Industries Department, Hydra, Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC), CISF and other departments attended the review meeting.
The government expects the Telangana mock drills to improve emergency preparedness, strengthen inter departmental coordination and ensure faster response during real disaster situations. (Maxim News)
