Telangana’s Food Revolution: Congress Government Ensures Food Security for 3.15 Crore People, Says Uttam Kumar Reddy
Huzurnagar, July 29 (Maxim News): Telangana’s Congress government is delivering unprecedented food security and dignity to over 3.15 crore people, marking a significant shift in welfare governance, said Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday.
Addressing a series of public meetings during a statewide ration card distribution drive in the undivided Nalgonda district, Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that Telangana is now a model for inclusive and efficient public distribution systems. “This is not just food relief. This is food justice,” he declared.
Ration Cards Distributed Across Five Constituencies
The Minister toured Peddavooru (Nagarjuna Sagar), Huzurnagar, Kattangur (Nakrekal), Bhudan Pochampally (Bhongir), and Alair, distributing new ration cards to thousands of eligible families. He was joined by SC and Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Principal Secretary & Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan, local MLAs, and senior Congress leaders.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that 7,95,685 new ration cards have been issued since January 26, 2025, with 11,37,622 new members added to existing cards, totaling 33.97 lakh new beneficiaries in just six months. “In contrast, the previous BRS government neglected lakhs of vulnerable families for over a decade,” he said.
Fine Rice Scheme: India’s Most Ambitious Food Welfare Initiative
He credited the Congress-led government for launching the Fine Rice Scheme—first rolled out on Ugadi Day from Huzurnagar—under which every ration card holder receives 6 kg of fine-quality rice per person every month. “From 1.85 crore people in the first phase to now over 3.15 crore beneficiaries, this scheme is the largest of its kind in India,” the Minister said.
“This is more than a scheme—it is a restoration of dignity for daily wage earners, widows, single mothers, tribal families, and the disabled who were left out for too long,” he added.
A New Era of Congress Governance
Highlighting the Congress party’s values of equity, justice, and grassroots governance, Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “We are not ruling from Hyderabad. We are working on the ground—in villages, mandals, and bastis—solving problems face to face.”

He applauded the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, and his cabinet colleagues for prioritizing inclusive governance. Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar echoed this sentiment, stating that the Congress government is committed to ensuring timely entitlements without discrimination based on caste, religion, or region.
Telangana’s Food Revolution
Uttam Kumar Reddy concluded by saying that this comprehensive food welfare drive is a “defining moment” in Telangana’s history. “This is not just about filling stomachs. It’s about restoring hope, recognition, and respect. We are turning welfare into a right—not a political favour. And this is just the beginning.”
