- BBS Urdu initiative focuses on higher education textbooks
Hyderabad: Textbook Quality was the key focus at a two day workshop for Urdu authors, where Prof. B.J. Rao said maintaining high quality in the preparation of textbooks is very important. He spoke at the valedictory session of the workshop. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice Chancellor of MANUU, presided over the event.
Prof. B.J. Rao, Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, said that the responsibility of preparing higher education textbooks assigned to Maulana Azad National Urdu University under the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti is being fulfilled well. He also advised the authors to write books worthy of reading. Therefore, he underlined the need to maintain textbook quality at every stage.
Meanwhile, Prof. N. Nagaraju, Vice Chancellor of EFLU, termed MANUU’s initiative regarding BBS as exemplary. He said that a connection must be established between all Indian languages so that brotherhood flourishes among us. His remarks highlighted the wider aim of linking languages through academic work.
Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, who is also the Nodal Officer of BBS Urdu, advised participants to take all precautions and maintain quality while preparing books. He said that a congenial environment for academic exchange should be created. He also observed that the Indian knowledge system is a blend of modernity and tradition.
Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, informed that the UGC is being continuously apprised of the progress made in preparing Urdu textbooks under BBS. Earlier, Prof. Khalid Mubashir Zafar, Director of DTTLP and BBS Urdu Coordinator, presented the workshop report.
Prof. Shugufta Shaheen pointed out that MANUU is trying to fill the vacuum created due to the end of the Urdu medium of education from Osmania University. During the workshop, experts covered curriculum and outcome based Urdu textbook development, standards of instructional writing and authorial integrity, digital tools, AI and technology of instructional writing, research transformation in instructional and reference books, and terminology and standardization in Urdu across four technical sessions.
