Officials said TG RTC earned a total of Rs 67.40 crore from ticket sales in just five days, from January 9 to January 13.

This translates to an average daily revenue of Rs 13.48 crore. The sharp rise came as the festival coincided with a double weekend, prompting a large number of employees and families to travel from cities to their native places.

The corporation took advance measures to handle the festive rush. As a result, the arrangements proved effective. Passenger turnout remained high throughout the period, especially on long distance routes connecting Hyderabad with districts.

TG RTC Sankranti Revenue | Special Services Drive Festive Earnings

Compared to regular days, the revenue jump mainly came from special bus services operated by TG RTC. The corporation deployed 6,431 special buses based on passenger demand. These services alone generated an additional revenue of about Rs 2.70 crore per day, officials said.

Higher ticket fares during the peak season also contributed to the earnings. Moreover, many passengers preferred RTC buses over private vehicles, which further worked in the corporation’s favour.

Authorities said efficient planning and continuous monitoring helped manage the rush without major inconvenience.

Meanwhile, TG RTC has made further arrangements for return travel after the festival. Officials said special buses are being operated today and tomorrow as well, as passengers head back to Hyderabad.

The corporation has also made special arrangements at major bus stations and key junctions to manage the incoming crowd smoothly.

Transport department officials believe this festive revenue has provided some relief to the financially stressed corporation.

They added that the strong response during Sankranti highlights the public’s trust in RTC services when adequate facilities are ensured.
