Hyderabad, Dec.9 (Maxim News): As countdown begins for the counting of votes in the 119 Assembly segments in Telangana State will be taken up on December 11, the political parties and leaders are caught in the grip of tense moments for the results to be announced.
The Election Commission has made tight security and strict surveillance by CCTVs and live coverage of the counting of the polls in 119 segments at 45 selected counting centers. The EC has made elaborate arrangements for the counting in a total of 45 centers across the State, including 15 in Hyderabad District alone. Overall voter turnout of the poll percentage was pegged at 73.20% in the elections which was five per cent more than 2014 elections.
Chief Election Officer Rajat Kumar told mediapersons at the Secretariat that the Election Commission has made tight security for counting of the votes sealed in the electronic voting machines (EVMs). To avoid doubts and ensure conformity this time the EC introduced VVPATS enabling the voters view their votes polled for seven seconds in display on the screen. It is likely that the results of the 119 seats will come out by 12 noon on December 11 as the counting is said to begin at 8 am if not at 7 am.
In the wake of complaints from the Congress-led People’s Front expressing doubts that the TRS may misuse power to tamper with the EVMS, the officials have taken extra care to avoid any irregularities. The officials were instructed to ensure complete security to avoid any sort of tampering or disturbance of the EVMs. The police officials set up the security in three-tier model at the strong rooms.
The elections held on December 7 for the 119 segments across the Telangana State from 7 am to 5 pm in all the segments and also in 13 Naxal-infested segments from 7 am to 4 pm. VVPATS proved handy as that ensured the electors about the votes polled to a particular candidate of a political party with party symbol. (Maxim News)
