- Hyderabad Honey Badgers win inaugural TPBL title
The Telangana Pro Basketball League concluded with the Hyderabad Honey Badgers emerging as champions of TPBL Season 1. The eight day tournament ended on Wednesday night at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium in Yousufguda. The league marked the first professional basketball competition of its kind in Telangana and the second official state level professional league in India.
The final match drew strong attention as the Hyderabad Honey Badgers defeated the Nizam Nawabs by seven points with a score of 70 to 63. The contest remained tight throughout and delivered a high intensity finish. With this win, the Honey Badgers lifted the inaugural TPBL trophy and secured a prize purse of ₹20 lakh. The champions also received an MVP award that included a Yamaha R15 motorcycle.

The closing ceremony featured the presence of Ms Sabitha Indira Reddy, who presented the trophy and prize money to the winners. She said the successful conduct of the league was a proud moment for Telangana. She appreciated the Telangana Basketball Association for organising the tournament on a grand scale. She also noted that Mr K T Rama Rao, who was scheduled to attend the event, could not be present as he was away from the city.
Earlier, Telangana Basketball Association president R Sridhar Reddy said the newly elected body of the association had conceptualised and executed the league successfully. He credited general secretary Ambati Prudhvishwar Reddy as the driving force behind TPBL Season 1. He added that the association aims to make Telangana a role model for basketball in India. The maiden season featured 21 matches and introduced several player focused initiatives.
Ambati Prudhvishwar Reddy said TPBL has become the biggest platform for basketball players in the state. He added that the league will help nurture talent from a young age and promote the sport on a larger scale. He said that as Telangana grows, basketball in the state is also growing steadily.
Season 1 of TPBL was held at the K V B R Indoor Stadium and is planned as a bi annual event. The league featured over 72 players and nearly 200 support staff. It showcased homegrown Telangana talent and recorded strong spectator interest with more than 20,000 fans watching matches live.
