It is because of platelets. Along with blood cells, blood also contains platelets. They cause blood to clot when the body is injured. Without these, internal bleeding occurs in the body. Normally they range from 1.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh in a person. Their number decreases during dengue infection.
Sometimes the situation can get out of hand when dengue is detected. Doctors give treatment to reduce the effect of the virus. However, there is no treatment available to increase platelet count. The body itself has to increase the platelets with the help of immunity. If the platelet count falls below twenty thousand, doctors will transplant new platelets. Sometimes there is no fever but only a sore throat. In such cases, if the blood test is not done, it is not known that it is dengue. So some damage is done. That’s why to know whether it is dengue or not, you should observe the changes in the body during the season. If you feel a bit pale, you should get a blood test immediately.
