The US Africa Command confirmed that US forces carried out the strikes in Nigeria. It said the operation happened at the request of the Nigerian government. It also stated that several ISIS terrorists were killed in the attack. Meanwhile, Nigerian officials issued a clarification on the situation in their country. They said the security challenges in Nigeria are not limited to religion alone.

The Nigerian government said attacks in the country affect both Muslims and Christians. It added that Trump’s comments suggesting that only Christians were targeted do not reflect the ground reality.
