Hyderabad, Oct.22 (Maxim News): As per the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Self-ban of single use plastic articles, Telangana State Pollution Control Board has organized “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign on “The theme of Plastic Waste Shramdaan” from September 11 to October 27. “Swachhta Hi seva” campaign will be celebrated for six weeks along with participation of citizens as a part of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.
On Tuesday, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board organized the “Plastic Waste Shramdaan” at Malkajgiri. Joint chief environmental scientist of Telangana State pollution control board Murlai Mohan was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized the need to curb single use plastic by the people. Segregation at source only will lead to curb the plastic menace which was degrading the environment. He said plastic generally do not degrade easily and will have impact on environment.
He exhorted people to carry their own cloth/jute/cloth bags for shopping which will reduce plastic usage. Anitha Chavali, member of JD foundation, also spoke. She stressed the need to reduce usage of plastics. Plastics less than 50 mocrons were posing serious health hazards when used for storing food items and leading to cancer. (Maxim News)
