Unemployed Youth Protest Outside Telangana Secretariat Over Job Calendar Delay; Several Detained

Hyderabad, July 4 (Maxim News): Tensions flared at the Telangana Secretariat on Friday as scores of unemployed youth and student activists staged a protest demanding the immediate release of the long-promised government job calendar. The demonstration, organized under the banner of ‘Hello Unemployed, Chalo Secretariat’, saw several protesters being detained by the Hyderabad police.

The agitators, who arrived in small batches to avoid early detection, accused the Congress-led State government of backtracking on its pre-election promise of releasing a comprehensive job calendar within one year of coming to power. They claimed the government assured recruitment to 2 lakh government posts, but only 11,000 positions have been filled so far — many of them from earlier BRS-era notifications.

“They promised two lakh jobs, but barely ten thousand have been filled. And even those came from the previous government’s efforts. The youth are being misled,” said a protesting graduate outside the Secretariat.

Protesters also voiced strong concerns over:

  • Irregularities in the Group-1 recruitment process
  • Delay in Mega DSC notifications
  • Pending recruitment in the electricity and education departments

The police, anticipating a protest, began detaining student leaders and unemployed youth from Thursday night itself. On Friday morning, as protesters converged near the Secretariat, several were taken into custody and moved to various police stations across the city.

Despite the clampdown, youth activists said this was only the beginning and warned of larger statewide protests if the job calendar is not released soon. Many also took to social media to highlight their frustration, trending hashtags like #ReleaseJobCalendar and #ChaloSecretariat.
