- PM Modi vows UNESCO heritage status for Bihar’s Chhath Puja
- Prime Minister accuses Congress and RJD of disrespecting the festival
Muzaffarpur/Hyderabad, Oct 30 (Maxim News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government would work to get UNESCO heritage recognition for Chhath Puja, a festival deeply rooted in the cultural life of Bihar.
Addressing a public meeting in Muzaffarpur in the backdrop of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the festival and accused his political opponents of showing disrespect toward it.
He said that Chhath Puja is celebrated with immense joy and devotion by the people of Bihar. However, according to him, the Congress party has been disrespecting this traditional festival. “UNESCO will bring heritage recognition to the Chat Puja celebrated by the people of Bihar,” Modi said during his address. He assured the gathering that his government was making efforts to give the festival the global acknowledgment it deserves.
The Prime Minister further accused the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of belittling the festival for political advantage. He alleged that these parties were indulging in divisive politics instead of supporting Bihar’s cultural pride.
He remarked that those who had “looted the railways” in the past were now claiming to bring progress to Bihar but had failed to deliver meaningful development.
Modi also alleged that “Jungle Raj” still prevailed in the state under RJD’s influence, with “RJD goons” reportedly going to showrooms and stealing vehicles.
Through his speech, the Prime Minister sought to contrast his government’s development agenda and respect for Bihar’s traditions with what he described as the opposition’s disregard for the state’s cultural and social identity.
The remarks have sparked political debate, particularly around the effort to gain UNESCO recognition for Chhath Puja and the Prime Minister’s criticism of rival parties.
